A hero among us

Valkyrian Kate Green is flanked by Don Roberts, emcee, and Shelia Harrison, Director of Marketing & Public Relations for Nauticus.

Congratulations to our very own Kate Green, for being honored at the 2014 Unsung Hero awards ceremony.  The event was sponsored by SunTrust Bank.  Kate and about a dozen other USO volunteers were recognized on Thursday, November 6, at Nauticus.  Don Roberts, WAVY-TV 10 news anchor, was the event’s emcee and U.S. Army Reserve Chief Warrant Officer Philip Brashear, gave the keynote address.  Brashear is the son of U.S. Navy Master Diver, Carl Brashear, whose life was depicted in the film “Men of Honor.”

For those who do not know, Valkyrie was among the first to support Norfolk’s “Restore BB 64” effort when we adopted the Pilot House.  Many of us have worked with Kate aboard the Wisky and continue to do so.  If you’re  a Valkyrian interested in volunteering aboard the Wisonsin, please contact Kate.

Thank you, Kate, for your dedication and commitment to our armed forces and to Nauticus/Battleship Wisconsin!!!
