The Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA) acknowledged two individuals as their Tradesperson and Junior Tradesperson of the Year and has done so since 2007. This year, two Valkyrie Enterprises employees from the Maritime Modernization operations were nominated and recognized by VSRA. Those employees were James Gessner in the Tradesperson and La’Ura Taylor in the Junior Tradesperson category.
VSRA held the awards luncheon at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott on November 12th. The organization showed its appreciation for the hard work these individuals put in and awarded the top two individuals, Thomas Clark, Jr. and Jahlani Williams from Técnico Corporation.
In 2024, VSRA received more than 30 nominees between both categories from its 300+ members.
Gessener, who joined Valkyrie in 2016, is known for being a self-starter who takes steps to improve his technical and leadership skills. He also oversees 14 technicians on the CVN 74 team and holds multiple industry-specific certifications.
Taylor, who joined Valkyrie in 2021, is a registered apprentice in the Women in Skilled Careers Workforce program and earned the NAVSEA Multi-Pin Connector certification. Her teammates know her as someone who’s always willing to assist and works with safety in mind. Taylor was promoted due to her hard work and advancing skills.
Valkyrie Enterprises congrats both nominees for their efforts as they personify the company mantra of “hiring the best to be the best.”
The Virginia Ship Repair Association was founded in 1979 and represents more than 300 member companies whose combined businesses have an economic impact in the Hampton Roads area of more than 79,000 jobs and $10.9 billion in economic impact.
